Hostess with the Mostess!

It's not just weddings that take time to plan and arrange!

A special birthday can also need a lot of time and effort put into it - venue, food, drinks, invitations, decorations, tableware, setting everything up (whilst you get dressed?!) and that's all before the party! Once the party is under way guests all have different needs - some just fancy a cup of tea, one spills wine on your floor, the buffet runs out of crisps and then there is the big clean up afterwards - doing the dishes, tidying the venue. It all amounts to a lot of work and why do it when someone else can!?

You don't want to spend your night running after all your guests and not having time to enjoy the party cause you have spent your time in the kitchen. With my hostess services you don't have to! Simply sit back, relax and enjoy your night whilst I keep and eye on everything for you. From topping up your guests drinks, making them cups of tea, checking on your buffet to make sure nothing is running out. Whilst you get ready I can I can set-up your drinks and buffet tables, decorate the room for you and all you need to do is arrive to a glass of bubbles and await your friends. I can meet and greet your guests with a glass of bubbles or help them get what they want whilst you mingle and chat!

Sure to Surprise You's hostess services are bespoke! We take each event into account and give you a quote for exactly what you want. We work throughout Cumbria whether it be a party in your own home, in a village hall, or a function suite - wherever you are having it we don't mind!

We will even wash the dishes and put them away for you - or you can hire them from us and not even lift a finger!

Not to toot my own horn but it is always good to see what other people have to say - so here are some of our customers thoughts?!

'Thanks so much for your help at Mike's birthday in Windermere - it was truly a fabulous night and having you around was a great help. It was very relaxing not having to worry about the guests eating and drinking or topping up their glasses. Everyone commented on your ease to be in the background but know what was happening - how did you do it?! A great night was had by all - thanks again...see you next year?!'
Russell

'After telling Amy our budget she was able to come up with some lovely decor ideas for my 70th birthday party! There were a lot of 'ooh's and aah's' when people entered the room and even on a tight budget it still looked magical - simple, creative and a must for every party'

A brief blog!

It's so hectic at the moment with Vintage Crockery going out most weekends, planning birthday parties, venue searches for wedding sin 2013 but I wanted to tell you all about one of our other services.

So many people are now deciding to do catering and host weddings, birthdays, christenings themselves which is fabulous if you can and have the time to do it! What we don't all have is the access to crockery, cutlery and glassware for all our guests...this is where Sure to Surprise You comes in! Although we do work very closely with some fabulous caterers we are proud of the DIY achievements of our customers as well.

From just 0.80p per person you can have all you would need for your guests! Plates, cutlery, wine glasses, and champagne saucers. We also stock water jugs, salad bowls, wine coolers and salt and pepper shakers...everything you need for your function. We can deliver everything to you and if you don't feel like doing the dishes then simply pop them back in the box and we will do it for you!!

Let us know if you need anything!

Thanks for catching up with us,

Amy xx

Glassware

Continuing on from our 'Hiring rather than Buying' theme I wanted to show you come of our glassware.

Although here at Sure to Surprise You we have a large range of stunning Vintage Crockery that's not all we do! Along with our hiring theme we have quickly expanded into many other aspects - one of which being our range of assorted Glassware. Having a very assorted range is great as we can do a lot with it so below are just some of our ideas. You don't have to use our ideas instead you could just hire the glassware and do whatever you want with it!

Sweet Treat Table
Sweet tables don't simply have to be fizzy cola bottles and fried eggs - they can be a thing of beauty. Your candy bar can be a focal point for your wedding, it can match your colour scheme, mirror your personalities and really put a smile on your guests faces.

Tie you bonbon jars with ribbon, fill the glass jars with anything you like - it doesn't have to be retro sweets. We have been doing many sweet tables incorporated with trays of cupcakes, home-made shortbread and fresh fruit - making there something for everyone to enjoy during the day.
Guests can go up to the table and pick what they want to have with their coffee at the end of your meal or indeed to have for dessert.

The doilies underneath the bonbon jars would be perfect for your vintage theme and add a little colour to a white linen cloth.

Vintage Glassware
We also have a small selection of vintage glassware. Many of this range is in differing colours which really shows the cut glass in all it's glory. Pink's, Green's and of course the plain cut glass are perfect to go with the most popular colour scheme of 2012 - Sage Green. We hired them out in June for one of our lovely bride and grooms to fill with Fresh Strawberries and dot about their country themed teepee wedding.
Here's what they said:

*** "The colourful cut glass really helped create the mood we wanted! I had been looking for some for ages as I knew it would match our vintage/country theme and was so pleased to have found you - alongside the vintage crockery and the twinkling candles in your mixed jam jars the whole day and night was just amazing - just how I wanted it to be. Amy - thanks so much! xx" ***

We also have cut glass candlesticks, jam bowls, cream and milk jugs - everything you need! For a romantic and elegant wedding (or...well any function really!) why not use this gorgeous cut glass to bring that finishing touch to your event? With crisp white linen table cloths topped with a square stunning black cloth really will make your event classy and elegant. Oh did I mention we do these fabulous black cloths?!

This stunning little cut glass crystal bowl is my favourite - it has 3 little feet and is just...well perfect!?

Centre Piece Delights
Although I do love flowers there are so many other options for your table centre pieces. Using our glassware means you can bring a bit of your personality to your tables in other ways. We have fish bowls, tall tulip vases, tall vases, small square glass, large brandy glass, long slightly flatter glassware - each of them could bring something different to each table.
Filled with cactus, candles, coloured sand, sweets, floating candles and small flower heads, or perhaps even games or something for people to do at their table. There are just so many options that the world is your oyster! It also means you may even save a few pennies?!

Pop on by to www.suretosurpriseyou.co.uk and take a look at what else we have to offer! All of our services are bespoke from wedding planning to hiring so drop me an email and I can always see what I can do for your function. info@suretosurpriseyou.co.uk

To hire or to buy?

You're engaged - Congratulations!!!

Now that the excitement has worn off a little it is time to start planning the biggest celebration of your life! The dress, the venue, the food, the decorations, the guests, the stationary, the transport, the flowers... the list is endless when deciding what you need and don't need for your big day. Not only does your list mount up but so does the cost. Your budget has suddenly been blown out of the water and you haven't even bought anything yet!

Although I am an event planner by 'trade' and 'name' I like to think that I can offer more than just advice to the happy couple. After speaking to brides and grooms all day for a couple of months I soon realised that I could not only save them money and time by planning their day but I could also provide them with many items as well.

To hire or to buy seems to be on everyone's lips at the moment. In the current climate people don't have 'extra' money to go out and buy 20 water jugs, 30 metres of bunting, 40 kilner jars for favour sweet or 100 candle holders, and even if they did what are they going to do with them all after the wedding?! Not only do you have to hunt for the items you need, you then have to fork over your hard earned cash you then have to find something to do with all the items after the event.....so selling it is then?! There is the likelihood here that you could actually spend more money then you make. With costs for putting the items on a website or in a newspaper, the postage costs, and the time taken to advertise all your items when you should be enjoying your time as husband and wife would it not be easier to hire?

Not only does Sure to Surprise You hire vintage crockery but we also hire pretty much anything you need! Glass Candle Holders, Jam Jars for candles, flowers or sweets, burshed metal baskets in a varitey of shapes and sizes, lace doilies, Champage Saucers, Heart-shaped notice board, Vases...pretty much anything you would need! We can even source items for you and hire them to you! And to top it off if we can't hire it to you we will find someone for you that can!

The question isn't To hire or to buy?...The real question should be: Why buy when you can hire?

Vintage is Back!

Vintage is now not a thing of the past and has flown full force into the present. Whether it is some stunning china with tiered cake stands showing off all your afternoon tea goodies, a simple collection of items that you like to look at in your home, a handbag that adds to that special outfit or a champagne saucer that makes you feel like a movie star...Vintage is back!

The photo above is of some of our vintage teacups and saucers at a wedding in Windermere, Cumbria that we had the pleasure of being part of last year. You may not be able to plan for the perfect weather on your wedding day but what you can do is ensure you get the perfect finishing touches! Our stunning vintage crockery for hire in Cumbria and the surrounding areas doesn't have to be used for a full vintage themed affair. Although our cake stands look lovely with an savoury and sweet goodies for an afternoon tea you could use them for a dessert table filled with mini-cheesecakes, macaroons, cupcakes, lemon tarts - anything that takes your fancy.

Why not hire our cups and saucers and fill them with flowers for your centrepieces or use them for there tea and coffee purpose at the end of your meal?!

We have some lovely vintage style champagne saucers that will make you and your guests feel a little like Marilyn Monroe as you sip your champagne - also perfect for champagne cocktails! There's always room for bubbles?!

Vintage really is back so why not make the most of it and add those extra finishing touches to your day? We will even come and set everything up for you!

Happy Hiring!

Planning

Creating the perfect celebration is a thing of beauty. Whether it is a child's pirate birthday to the most important day of your life - your wedding - there are things that need to be taken into account. Perhaps things that you don't even think of!

Suddenly you are learning all about excel spreadsheets, designing budgets and wondering how you will make the 14 tiered wedding cake?!

Being a party planner and event organiser isn't as easy as Jennifer Lopez makes it look in 'The Wedding Planner'...How I wanted to create these magical days for people - little did I know that my computer would be full of risk assessments and house full of balloons!? However, everytime I see the face of the guests and guest of honour it makes all the spreadsheets worthwhile!

If you need any help planning  - drop me an email and I will pass on some hints and tips!

The New Year...making things stronger!

Well a big Happy New Year!

I can't believe how fast 2011 went by...one minute I was taking the tree down and talking about diets and detox and then the next minute I had the tinsel round my neck, the lights plugged in and thinking that the diet had not gone to plan!

Now that the tree is down again it is time to start thinking about moving onwards and upwards and creating a stronger image before I get the tinsel and lights out of the attic again!

2012 boasts huge things for 'Sure to Surprise you' - with new decoration lines, expansion of our party packs and also the addition of some more items that will hopefully help with the planning and enjoyment of your celebrations. In turn this will hopefully make your life easier when decorating your venue, finding and giving those perfect gifts and buying the perfect favours from weddings to birthday bags.

I do hope that you like all the ranges that we put on and that the business can go from strength to strength - now we just need to get planning, creating and buying so that we can deliver what we promise!

Happy partying!

xx
